7 Date Ideas to Reconnect in Utah County

A woman leading someone by the hand. This represents how Marcus Hunt Therapy provides marriage counseling, premarital counseling, and LDS marriage counseling through Online Therapy in Utah

Every relationship requires some alone time with you and your partner. Relationships can experience some disconnection at times due to the demands of life such as work, parenting, and other things. Aside from just marriage counseling, one way to strengthen a relationship and reconnect is to continue to date one another. Dating doesn’t stop once you get married and should be a goal that you should try to incorporate as often as you can. It’s easy to put dating on the back burner once you’re married and is something we neglect due to lack of time and money.

Something to consider while dating is to disconnect from your phone or other distractions in order to get the full benefits out of the experience. Marriages can struggle because couples no longer make time for each other or don’t take the time to even just sit and talk without being distracted. Here are 7 date ideas in Utah County to consider:

  1. Color Me Mine in Provo, Utah

Color Me Mine is a pottery store in Provo that has a large selection of pottery pieces that you and your partner can paint and decorate together. This can take an hour or so of painting depending on how creative you want to be so don’t plan to be in a rush. After you are done painting, you’ll leave your pottery for them to fire in a kiln and to pick up later. This allows you and your partner to connect with each other in an artistic way. Afterward, I recommend going to Lucy’s New York Style Pizzaria. As someone that has lived in New York City for a while this pizza is pretty close to authentic New York thin-crust pizza. My favorite pizza is the Zestpian.

  2. Hale Center Theater in Orem, Utah

Hale Center Theater is a great place to go to a play. The seating is pretty limited but it also makes for a fun and intimate experience to get close. Hale Center comes out with new plays during the year so you could visit several times and have a different experience. If you are into Thai food, one of my favorite places for it is Thai Drift off of state street close to Lindon. You’ve got to try the Pumpkin Curry.

    3. Spanish Fork River Trail in Spanish Fork, Utah

One of my favorite things to do in the months of better weather is to walk the Spanish Fork River Trail. It’s a nice and easy walk with no real inclines so you’re not going to be so out of breath you can hold a conversation with your partner. Walking can be a great form of therapy because it’s a type of bilateral stimulation and allows your brain to process things. You may be surprised at how much you and your partner are able to talk and process things together. It may even help provoke some solutions together and open up space for deeper conversations together. You can stop at Canyon View Park after for a picnic or toss a frisbee. If you want to hit up one of the greatest Chinese restaurants of all time on this date visit China Wok and get the orange chicken. When I moved back from New York this was my first stop ever before my parent’s home. I’ve been going there regularly since high school.

4. Salem Pond in Salem, Utah

Salem Pond is a pond in Salem, Utah where you can canoe or just sit on a bench and feed the ducks. It is possible to swim there but I don’t recommend it. If you can go during Christmas time, it’s my favorite time to visit. They light up Christmas trees that float in the water, and it’s fun to see the lights around the pond. This can be an inexpensive date night that allows you time to relax and chill. If you want to bring something to eat for a picnic, stop at Casa Salza in Spanish Fork and order their pork nachos. Their salsa is amazing.

5. Clyde Recreation Center in Springville, Utah

If you are up for swimming, a game of basketball, or during the warmer season a game of tennis, the Clyde Rec Center in Springville is a great place for a date night. This is an opportunity to do something active with your partner and can be an opportunity to relieve stress together as a couple. I personally enjoy the lap lane swimming pool there if you are into swimming. For something to eat when you are done, visit the Strap Tank Brewery also in Springville. Their burgers are great, and if it’s the weekend you can enjoy some live entertainment from local bands playing there.

6. Scooter Lounge in Provo, Utah

Oh man, I love this place! On a whim one, Saturday my wife and I stopped in at the Scooter Lounge and test drove some scooters. It’s not your typical date idea but it sure was fun. They are a scooter and e-bike shop, and if you are in the market for either I recommend checking this place out. It’s fun just to look at all the shiny scooters and dream about which one you would pick. If you are a sushi fan, visit Five Brothers Sushi. This is a great place because they also offer late-night sushi. There are a lot of rolls I like there but lately, I’ve been enjoying the Phat Bro.

7. Full Moon Lift Rides at Sundance Resort in Provo Canyon

This is one of those activities that is offered in the summer months and is one you need to plan ahead because they are only offered when it’s a full moon. Although scenic rides and Halloween lift rides are also offered. You’ll have to check the Sundance Resort Full Moon Life Ride Schedule. This is a unique date night idea where you can enjoy quiet time underneath the night sky. One of my favorite romantic date ideas is where you can chat and snuggle into each other. Before you go up the canyon for this ride, you’ll want to eat first. I recommend Chubby’s Cafe in Vinyard. My favorite things to order at Chubbys are the Sweet Buffalo Tenders or the Shrimp Po Boy (the most underrated item on their menu) or you can’t go wrong with a burger there.
