4 Tips For Making the Most Out of Online ADHD Treatment in Utah

If you’ve never done online therapy before, you might have a lot of questions about what to expect. Some people feel skeptical about doing online therapy because they’ve never done it before. Online ADHD treatment offers you the opportunity to work on yourself and improve the impact ADHD symptoms have on your life. It can be hard to find the right therapist that treats what you are struggling with, especially in some rural parts of Utah. ADHD treatment online can bridge the gap and help you have access to help.

Online ADHD treatment versus in-person therapy

Many people assume that in-person therapy is superior and more effective. The truth is, it’s not really different. The same goals, topics, and therapy approach is used whether you attend therapy online versus in person. Online therapy makes it more convenient for you to meet with a therapist consistently. For years people have had to travel long distances to see a therapist that specializes in the issue that they are struggling with because the town they live in doesn’t have a therapist specializing in their needs. However, the COVID-19 pandemic helped many people learn to utilize online therapy services and make them just as effective and in some instances even more effective. The most critical part of online ADHD treatment is the competency of the therapist in working through an online therapy platform. As a therapist who was trained from the beginning in doing therapy online, I have worked at becoming more of an expert in online therapy.

Offering online ADHD treatment can help you in the unique ways you need just as effectively as you would if you showed up at the therapy office. You don’t have to worry if you will be able to meet your goals just because it’s online. I assure you that you won’t miss out on anything by utilizing online counseling.

How online ADHD treatment helps

Online ADHD treatment is all about helping you become the version of yourself that you want to be. Whatever part of your ADHD has interfered with your life and your functioning, we can focus on improving. It’s not your fault you have ADHD, and together we can find ways to help you cope. Online ADHD treatment allows you to meet face-to-face with a therapist through online therapy to work on the negative beliefs you have about yourself.

Tips for Online ADHD Treatment

In order to get the most out of your therapy session there are some tips to utilize. Here are some of the tips to consider trying.

Have a good internet connection

It’s hard for us to engage and work with one another when the internet connection isn’t good. When the internet cuts in and out and we lose each other, it makes for a difficult session. I want to be able to help you get the most out of your treatment and the first barrier to overcome is having decent internet. Don’t get me wrong a poor connection happens for me too during sessions sometimes but doing all we can to avoid it can be helpful.

Make sure you have privacy

Having a space to meet with a therapist without having to censor yourself because of who might hear your session is important. Therapy requires an open and honest dialogue about how you are feeling and what you struggle with. Make sure you have a private space where people won’t interrupt your session or make you feel self-conscious about speaking openly. You can count on me to be meeting with you from a private place where nobody will interrupt us from where I am at.

Decide in advance what to focus on

You don’t always have to know what you want to focus on in therapy but it does help if you bring things to the session to talk about. As a therapist, I can help guide you through it as long as we have an idea of what’s important to you. It helps to focus during the week on what comes up that pertains to your goals for ADHD. This is an essential part of being committed to working on yourself. It doesn’t have to be something big but an area to focus on greatly helps.

Hide your self-view

When it comes to an online therapy session, something that can distract you is seeing yourself on the camera. You might be distracted or worrying about what you look like by watching yourself instead of feeling like you can be open and honest during a therapy session. Something that can help is to hide the view of your camera facing you so that you can be unbothered in a therapy session.

You deserve help with your ADHD

ADHD doesn’t have to completely rule your life for you to deserve help. You might be getting along ok in life without therapy but you would be surprised at how much better things can be when you focus on self-improving. It can be hard to be patient and kind to yourself when you are so frustrated with yourself but it is important to give yourself grace for where you are. This allows you to make more progress in improving than you would by berating yourself for your struggles.
